Dragon Actually (The Dragon Kin, #1)

Dragon Actually (The Dragon Kin, #1) - G.A. Aiken ★★★1/2 stars. I enjoyed this a lot more than I'd like to admit.

This is a light hearted love story about Annwyl the Bloody and the dragon Fearghus the Destroyer (no idea how authors come up with these names sometimes). Annwyl is recued from near death by Fearghus and it is in his care that she discovers for the first time a peaceful haven, friendship and love. Fearghus is a cranky solitary dragon who is drawn to Annwyl's spirit. What he doesn't reveal to her is that dragons are shifters. And so Annwyl finds herself torn between lust and love.
"The feeling of being safe. It seemed strange to feel neither fear nor rage. As new a feeling to her as her desires for the knight. And, she had to admit, she liked both....No matter what happened, both dragon and man would forever share a place in her heart."

At points the sugary sweetness of the story was a bit too much but I was so wrapped in what would happen next that I didn't care. I liked Annwyl and Fearghus and appreciated that they were both headstrong characters who accepted and loved each other's flaws. There were a lot of minor characters that I don't think were necessary and at a certain point the story seemed to drag but I still really enjoyed the light hearted banter, love and sexy scenes.

Curious to see what the other books in this series are about.
