Lover At Last: A Novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood

Lover at Last - J.R. Ward I've been waiting for this for too long! I was nervous about picking it up after reading some reviews but if you love Ward and the world she has built, you'll love this. In true Ward fashion this has a zillion subplots. Assail is back. I'll admit it took me a bit to recall that storyline from the previous book but my curiosity has been peaked about him and Sola aka Marisol. Xcor and his Band of Bastards are also back and we got more insight on the shadow brothers Trez and iAm. I'm liking how these "bad" guys have good sides. Wondering how she's going to turn their stories. She did it before with Rehvenge. Curious how she'll do it with them.

Back to the main story Blay and Qhuinn. I love what she did with them. There were some raw, angry and intense scenes. Being the sap that I am, I teared up a couple of times. Overall I wasn't disappointed. Wish I'd gotten more time with them but its how these stories roll. Still not a fan of the Chosen though I'm happy they had a small part.

Bottom line is, if you're a fan of BDB and Ward, then you know the formula and what to expect from the writing and the organization. No surprises there. Really wish we'd spent more time with the Brothers rather than new characters but I get where Ward is going with this. Or at least I think I do. As King, Wrath is making huge changes to their society and who is a Brother. I expect big changes are coming.

Also no idea who the next book will be about. Thinking it might be Trez.
