Shadow and Bone (Grisha Trilogy)
Holy shit!!! I will freely admit that my expectations were very low when I picked this up. I thought it was another sappy YA love story. While it is a love story... of sorts... the focus is not solely on romantic love. The story is about an orphan girl who slowly blossoms into her power. The world and the characters are developed in a way that I was cheering for the bad guys. Hoping, still hoping, that there was a mistake. Now the wait for book 2.
