Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, Book 1)

Rosemary and Rue - Seanan McGuire Hmmm... Not sure how to review or even rate this book. While I enjoyed the premise, even the city it was taking place in, I never connected to Toby. I still don't understand how a faerie that is knighted and previously made a living as a detective could be so vulnerable and well.... useless. It seemed to me that others were doing the fighting, the rescuing, even the thinking and if it wasn't for them she would've never made it. She was willing to give up on more than 2 occasions. If someone if shooting at you, perhaps the smartest thing would be not to try to outrun them? Especially when it has been established time and time again that a changeling isn't that strong, that magical or that fast.

Having said all that, I have to recognize that stories centered on the fae are troublesome for me just because the author has to usually spend so much time with world building that the character development takes a backseat. So perhaps book 2 will be better??
