Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1)

Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1) - Sarah Fine 4.5 stars!
I was more than a little nervous about picking this up. It does deal with the dark subject of suicide but it wasn't depressing. At least not to me. When a person kills themselves they go to a city where if they're lucky they will find that which brings peace to their soul and move on to a peaceful place. Lela goes to this city to find Nadia and meets Malachi. A guard who ends up falling in love with Lela.

The world created was very different and the love story was the focal point for a good portion of the story. I did get really frustrated with Lela towards the end but I get it. Nadia is the only true friend she ever had and she loves her. Lela hasn't had many people she loves.

Interested to see where book 2 will take this story. This was a great audio but it does deal with suicide and coming to terms with the choices a loves one makes in taking their life.
