The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1)

Mara Dyer moved to Florida after 3 of her friends are killed in a collapsed building. An asylum *cue creepy music*. She is diagnosed with PTSD. She sees dead people. Specifically Clare and Jude. The first half of the book was sloooow. When she moves to Florida, Mara meets hot rich bad-boy Noah. I actually liked Noah. Yeah, he was over the top too good to be true but he was interesting. Mara though is an asshole. She hears he's got a bad rap so decides to be bitchy towards him although she is clearly interested. Ok.
So Mara is having hallucinations. Having a hard time fitting in at school. I don't blame her, I'd be emo too if I had lost 3 people. About halfway things picked up a bit in the romance front and finally got interesting. But then... things got weird and confusing again.
There is a side plot of Mara's father's client which I'm still unsure how it fits in. Or if the whole purpose of that side plot was just to reveal that Noah had a special gift.
Still unsure if Mara had anything to do with the deaths of the 3 people or what. I don't know if all this mystery is supposed to be the appeal and hook to draw people to book 2 but all it did is leave me confused, confused and confused.
I have never browsed the reviews so much. Keep hoping someone explains what the hell I just read because to me it seems like a contemporary teen romance with a chick that may be losing her mind. The end.
