Survival (The Guardians of Vesturon, #1)

Survival (The Guardians of Vesturon, #1) - A.M. Hargrove Oh great Deity Maddie sure is annoying!!! I was given this book by the author to review and I almost didn't finish it. 25% in, I had to fight the urge to shut my kindle off and be done!! But I promised to read it and so I read on!

The main character Maddie is an 18 year old orphan who after being brutality attacked is rescued and meets one of the Guardians, a member of an alien group from the planet Vesturon, Rayn. Maddie is without a doubt childish, an airhead, whiny, unaware of how beautiful she is so is in constant wonderment of "what? You think I'm beautiful. You must be crazy”. She tells her new college roommates her life story - literally - 5 minutes after she meets them, but gets upset and pouty when her rescuers ask questions about her life. I found her references to the teleporter “McFlurry” and “Mr. Hottie”, “Mr I Can’t Believe How Hot You Are”, Mr. Manners etc , etc. just irritating. I’m surprised my eyeballs didn’t get stuck from all my eye rolling.

I liked Rayn - he’s the reason this gets 3 stars. He’s an alien hot guy who doesn't know the meaning of "pea brain", got confused when Maddie used the phrase “Shut up!” and other slang but subscribes to GQ, watches the Food Network and are avid baseball fans. He continually switches from very “proper” English to contemporary English. ...ok... Still, I'm a sucker for hot humanoid males who are honor bound to do the right thing. Unfortunately it's hard to enjoy and cheer for love to conquer all when the object of affection is annoying and clearly unworthy. I think Rayn deserves better. Raise your standards for women Rayn, you can do it!! You were meant for bigger and better things!

I hope Book 2 is better…
