Leviathan

I'm torn about how to rate this book. On one hand it the vivid & complex world created was awesome. Very unique creatures that were brought to life even more by the illustrations provided. Unfortunately I think this was also the downfall of the story. So much time was taken to build, describe and introduce the characters that the story didn't actually take off until 75% into the book.
This book also felt very young. I don't mean that in a bad way. It probably is a good reflection on the characters themselves. Alek and Deryn are both young and very naive. Both are thrown into war and into the real world and that veil of youth is taken away.
Overall I'm giving this 3.5 stars. It has lots of promise and I just hope that we don't get bogged down again with the world building.
